School Board Minutes 03/17/2010
                March 17, 2010
                
                        A meeting of the Berlin Board of Education was held in the Berlin High School library beginning at 6:00 p.m. Present for the meeting were, Nicole Plourde, Linda Pivin, Mitch Couture, Martha Laflamme, Karin Dorval, Corinne Cascadden, Marion Huntley, Jane Provencher, Ken Proulx, Amy Huter, Bailey Rigg, Julie King, Roland Simard, Angela Duquette, Marc Lauze,  Pam Carrier, Joanne Murphy,and members of the press.

MINUTES         On a motion by Nicole Plourde, seconded by Martha Laflamme, the Board voted to approve the minutes of the March 3, 2010 meeting public and nonpublic sessions. The motion passed unanimously.

WARRANTS                On a motion by Nicole Plourde, seconded by Martha Laflamme, the Board voted to approve the warrants dated March 15, and March 22, 2010 for the amounts of $17,368.42 and $141,074.08.  Discussion ensued regarding indistrict travel and course reimbursement. On a roll call vote, all members voted in the affirmative.  

FINANCIAL REPORT        The financial report was reviewed by Marion Y Huntley and accepted by the Board.
                        
COMMENTS                None
                        Linda Pivin arrived at 6:10 p.m.
                        
1st RDG C POLICIES      On a motion by Nicole Plourde, seconded by Martha Laflamme, the Board voted to approve the first reading of the C Policies with the suggested revisions. The motion passed unanimously.

1st RDG J POLICIES      On a motion by Nicole Plourde, seconded by Linda Pivin, the Board voted to approve the first reading of the enclosed J Policies as amended. The motion passed unanimously.

SUPER REPORT            The Superintendent gave the Board an update on the following issues:
•       NECAP Presentation
•       BHS procedure on course selection; the administration will rework their procedures taking into consideration the Board’s input
•       A memo will be sent to the city council answering questions raised at the budget presentation
•       The April 7th Board meeting will be held at Brown School; the meeting will start at 6:00 p.m. and will begin with a tour of the school
•       The NH Commissioner of Education will be visiting our schools on April 1st

NEW BUSINESS            None
                                                        
NON PUBLIC              On a motion by Linda Pivin, seconded by Martha Laflamme, the Board voted to go into nonpublic session at 7:23 p.m. in accordance with RSA 91-A3II, (a) & (b). On a roll call vote, all members voted in the affirmative.

                        On a motion by Martha Laflamme, seconded by Linda Pivin, the Board voted to come out of nonpublic session at 9:30 p.m. The motion passed unanimously. No additional votes were taken in nonpublic session.

STAFFING                On a motion by Martha Laflamme, seconded by Nicole Plourde the Board voted to accept the following staffing changes.

                        NOMINATIONS:

                        Timothy Lapointe – Part-time custodian – District
                        Susan Arsenault – Individual Aide – Brown School

                        The motion passed unanimously, with Mitch Couture abstaining.

                        All nominations are contingent on the applicant passing a criminal record check.
                                                        
ADJOURN         On a motion Nicole Plourde, seconded by Linda Pivin, the Board voted to adjourn it’s meeting at 9:35 p.m. The motion passed unanimously.
